1959 – graduated from Secondary School at the “Canisius College” Nijmegen (the Netherlands)
1966 – MA  Economics at the Catholic University Tilburg, specialization International Law and International Relations

* Ministry of Economic Affairs: European Integration Department, responsible for the European
Coal and Steel Community, and for the European Subsidies for the reconstruction of the Dutch coalmine areas; also in charge of the association treaties with Greece and Turkey
* Head of the Shipbuilding Division
* Secretary of the National Commission for the Reconstruction of the Dutch Shipbuilding Industry

1972 – 1983
* Municipality of the Hague, consecutively Head of the Major’s Cabinet and Head of the Economics Department

* Member of the Board to supervise four companies owned by the Hague

* Mayor of the municipality of Haaksbergen with the  portfolio’s of finance, regional planning, economics, public safety and human resources
* Chairman of the regional land consolidation commission of Haaksbergen and surroundings (10.000 ha, and 600 farmers)
* Member of the National Council for the Municipal Finances

* Government Member: State Secretary for Agriculture and Nature Management, particularly responsible for forestry, land consolidation, nature management, veterinary service, phytosanitary service, plant protection and animal welfare (in this period a fundamental change in the organization of the ministry took place from a separate divisional structure to multi disciplinary integral management)

Advising committee of the  Dutch Ministery of Agriculture, Nature and Foodsafety (LNV). which resulted in the report:”Verkenning van de technische en bestuurlijke haalbaarheid van een bijdrage voor de recreatievaart”.

2009 – 2012 present General Commisionair of the world exhibition Floriade 2012 in Venlo

2010     Chairman of the “Evaluation commission beheer grote grazers in de Oostvaardersplassen”. Advising committe of the Dutch Ministery of Agriculture, Nature and Foodsafety (LNV).
